Denver Newborn Photographer: No Babies in Baskets

As a Denver newborn & baby photographer and mother of two, I believe that a newborn baby belongs in the arms of her mother rather than wrapped in a costume, placed in a basket, or lit by artificial studio lights. I prefer back-folds to ruffles and hairlines over frilly hats. I believe that the first few weeks with your newborn will prove to be some of the most beautiful, exhilarating, and exhausting weeks of your life. And I believe that all of those experiences are worth documenting in an organic, unobtrusive, and natural way.

Natural Newborn & Baby Photography

Many parents today are shifting away from posed and heavily edited portraits of their newborns in favor of natural and authentic newborn photography. A natural and more documentary style focuses on capturing the raw emotions, intimate connections, and delicate beauty of a newborn as they interact with their parents and environment in a genuine, non-artificial way. Instead of elaborate studio props and artificial lighting, natural newborn photography relies on soft, natural light, organic settings, and a documentary-style approach.

When to Schedule Your Newborn Photo Shoot

You can schedule your photo shoot with your newborn photographer (me!) as soon as you’d like after baby arrives although I generally come to a client’s home a couple of weeks after baby is born. That said, sometimes a client can’t wait that long and wants me to come as soon as the first day or two after they’ve returned home from the hospital or birthing center (a la a Fresh 48). Whether you’re scheduling your newborn shoot for a couple of days after baby arrives or a couple of weeks, morning shoots are usually best for both baby and parents. And please don’t worry about having a clean house or looking your best, newborn photo shoots are all about capturing your family being a family and the raw, deeply human beauty that that reality entails.

In Home Denver Newborn Photography

I don’t utilize a studio so I will come to your home and photograph you there. An in-home newborn photography session will be the easiest photo shoot you’ll ever do as all you have to do is hold, adore, and feed your baby whether by breast or bottle.  And despite your lack of sleep and the fact that your body may not be what it was pre-pregnancy, you will treasure these precious early moments of life with your new baby. I provide my in-home newborn photography services to clients across the Denver metro area and as far north as Fort Collins.
