The day after the crazy storm, it was still pretty miserable to be out walking about, so Paige found a cabbie who would drive us around for 25 euros an hour. So we headed out to the countryside for a little Irish adventure. The Cabbie was so great, in that he narrated the entire trip. He even teared up at one point when we came to a bog where the Irish were ostrisized by the English. The land is so rocky and barren that nobody could even grow food to eat—even to this day, you don’t see any agriculture except for a cow here and there, and some Connemara ponies.<\/p>\n

The overall experience we had on our little roadtrip was so much better than a tour because we could stop the driver wherever we wanted, to take photos. I think he got a kick out of us, and enjoyed how much we loved his homeland. The cemetery was my favorite spot of the day. Morbid, maybe. But so full of history and sublime beauty…<\/p>\n

Galway is known for their lovely swans…. The locals take excellent care of the bay in order to preserve the health and beauty of these creatures, and it’s a daily ritual for some to go to the bay and feed them by hand. We didn’t do this, but we did stop the car and get pretty close to a few!<\/p>\n

I want to be buried here—it’s so beautiful and somehow peaceful, despite the crazy winds off the ocean. All you can hear is the wind, and the sounds of the water crashing up onto the rocky shoreline.<\/p>\n

We stopped midday for a pint and some lunch. I loved this vintage Beamish sign. If you haven’t tried Beamish, it’s a lot like Guinness, but even creamier. It’s my favorite, straight from the draught!<\/p>\n

It got extremely windy again towards the end of the day. I couldn’t believe how dedicated Paige was. Again, I took this image from the warm car.<\/p>\n

By the time we got home it was getting dark. I took this image from our window down to the street below us.<\/p>\n

We cleaned up, and headed out for another pint at one of my favorite Galway bars, The Quays.<\/p>\n
